Tampa, Fla. — Policyholders of Florida founder Sean Shaw today blasted Citizens Property Insurance Corporation for once again attempting to use a backdoor power grab to hike insurance rates, ignoring the will of elected representatives. A proposal before the Citizens board Thursday would allow skyrocketing rates for new policies, deeming established statutes that cap rate hikes at 10% only applicable to current policies.
"It's a power grab, legally suspect, and a quick way to stall any hopes for a housing recovery," said Sean Shaw. "Citizens has a knack for being completely out of touch with working families in our state, but this may be their most tone-deaf proposal to date."
